Default P1349 VVT Sensor Part

I have the P1349 and P1346 codes on my 1998 LS400 154k miles. I bought the OEM replacement but it doesn't fit flush like the old one. It sticks out a few MM when inserted. The old one goes right back in flush no problem. Upon inspecting both they both look different. I am 100% sure I got the OEM (15340-0F010). The original part number is 15340-50010 which is out of production. Typically the numbers just change but in this case the parts look different than the original in the vehicle. I am really confused. Anyone experience this or know what's going on?

Are you meaning that it is the O ring that blocks the part to insert or the metal part is bigger than the original?
It is the often case that people have a bit hard time inserting a new VVTi solenoid because the O ring is new and thicker than the old one. Other than this, they say fake parts are widely shipped from China and it is not fully compatible. How much did you pay for that part?

I think you were right about the o-ring. Much appreciate your input. I used a little force and it popped right in. Notice the difference between the two versions and how they look installed. I originally thought the reason it didn't fit was because maybe the smaller hole on the newer one wasn't big enough to accept whatever was on the inside of the port. By the way the dealer charges 3 hours labor (around $470) just to install what literally took me 10 minutes. They also wanted $218 for the sensor when it can be had from a reputable seller on eBay for around $65.

The original VVT Solenoid (OCV)

The left is the original (15340-50010) that came with the car the one on the right is the OEM replacement (15340-0F010). Notice the difference between the opening at the bottom of the sensor.

The new one installed
