I have a 1994 LS 400, how do I know if it is first generation or second generation? I read where the first generation has a non-interference engine. Is this true?
Thanks for your help.

89 to 94 were non-interference engines, so your's is non-interference. 1995 and on were interference engines.

I imagine the definitive answer is in your vin number, just a guess. But 1994 is first generation is it not? Apparently in 1995 the compression ratio was increased from 10.0:1 to 10.4:1 perhaps by eliminating the indentations in the pistons which made room for the intake valves I believe.
From my understanding 1994 is first generation with indentations in the pistons.
Maybe attach one of those scopes to your iphone and look down into one of your piston chambers for more certainty perhaps.
