Default Update On The New Old Lexus ...

December 8, 2019
My new old Lexus finally went into the winter hinterlands, and I was worried because this one does not have the traction control like the old one did. I needed not worry so much. It is a blast to drive in the snow, like old school American iron, just light up the rear tires to glide around corners or pull u-turns in the middle of the street, all very controllable and docile. Essex NY.

Washed all the salt off, vacuumed the interior, then drove 780 miles in one day from Pensacola FL to Atlanta GA and back to Pensacola. Total Interstate Road Warrior, 90+ mph for 10 hours, 22 mpg, good tunes.

Now at 83,300 miles, running flawlessly, no repairs over the past year.

Great to hear. Just went over 84,000 miles in mine and haven’t had to do anything other than routine maintenance in about 3 and a half years. Best car ever.

thanks for keeping your LS so pristine! when these are in top condition they really have a special presence to them

rwd is always a blast in the snow, if only the LS was fitted with a limited slip diff it would be unstoppable when combined with a set of good snow tires... it manages when roads are relatively flat but even with blizzaks i'd struggle to get up seemingly mild hills, the limited slip diff equipped crown vic with its cop car ground clearance on the other hand (speaking of old school american iron lol) would just plow through everything!

your car is so low mileage it makes me happy to see it getting out on the open road and let loose, the LS has a way of leaving you more rested at the end of a long trip than when you started lol... even after hours of driving you still don't have any real inclination to want to get out

The new old Lexus, named "Alexus2" to distinguish it from the identical-looking 1992 Lexus, has been my Social Distancing Warrior over the past twelve weeks, commuting back and forth from Miami to Pensacola with only a gas stop outside of Tampa. Now at 85,880 miles since I purchased it at 57,740 miles in March 2017, this car has been a pleasure, driving reasonably well even through tornado-whipped winds and sheets of rain outside of Tallahassee.

Miami stop April 29, 2020:

Back at Ford Myers to be with my sweetie:

Leather and carpeting is still damn close to perfect, and here is the engine as of this morning in Fort Myers FL:

Car is running flawlessly, nothing to do ....

Stay alert! This Coronavirus is not to be fooled with!

Ain't no joke there. 😃 You're making me miss Fort Myers though, actually over the bridge in Fort Myers Beach. Haven't been down there in about 10 yrs, since my mom passed. One of these days I'll be back, hope I see your car down there cuz that thing is beautiful. It looks just as good as it did the day you got it 3 yrs ago. I guess it's easy to keep it that way down in Fl. 😉
Nice update, keep it up.

Absolutely! 90% of an engine's wear is at start-up through the life of the engine. This engine still requires not a drop of oil between 5,000 mile oil changes, and has not taken new coolant in well over a year. Spooky. Need to remember that this is not just a generic new car, but the pinnacle engineering of a 30 year-old classic ...
