Default 1990 LS 400 first mods???

Hi guys noob here, just bought a 90 LS with over 205,000 miles on it, and wanted to know what are the first 2-3 mods to do to it. It is bone stock. One more thing, what do they run stock at the track?

Thanks!

LOL. Welcome to CL.

You want to run a 200+K mile 1990 LS at the track?

Forget mods at this point, have the engine and transmission rebuilt. If all the maintenance hasn't been followed on a strict schedule, expect costly repairs on other parts of the car. I'm being very straight forward as I've been there myself, many others here included.

It's been well taken care of, runs awesome! It was my uncle's car, he was the original owner too. No need for a re built on it, so anyone wanna help me out? What do they run stock, and what should be the first few mods on them?

Thanks!

I agree with Lvangundy, you should atleast check the engine's integrity before laying down 1/4 mile passes with a motor thats 200k!! Even if it was owned by your uncle.

One thing though, you wont find "sports car" numbers with this luxury car since it wasnt built for it. As far as first mods go, most members here would like to improve on the handling and braking department of the car rather than power.

maybe a coilover setup from JIC or Tein
upgraded brakes
then your usual intake, exhaust and (not sure if there is one available) headers to make the V8 breath a little better.

Good Luck

Dont worry about your engine its good to go for many many more miles.

Welcome to CL

Mods: Check your suspension...... if it looks like it will need new shocks get the coil overs. Plus that will help you in lowering it. You could always go wheels/tires first.

Wheels and tint would make the car look good.

Its up to you what you want but I think your after speed.

I appreciate all the info, but no need to worry about the engine or the car. My uncle is an car nut, and a perfectionist. He has a 5 lb folder full of reciepts of nearly all work that has been done to it. It is in near perfect conditon, and is a fine runner. I'm going down to Mexico to fix a few blemishes in the interior, and the body gaps, and paint is perfect! Can't complain for 2,000$.

I am not after mega speed here, mid to low 14's would be perfect. I geuss I'll do intake first, then exhaust, headers, then a stereo system upgrade, after that wheel+rims. What I would like is if you fine gents can point me to some name brand after market companies that are well known to work great on Lexus cars.

I really appreciate the warm welcome, good to see other members worrying about another member's car like this.

Welcome to the board.

You may do the BFI intake which will cost nothing. Then do a X-pipe setup for your exhausts. For exterior mods, you can begin with clear corners and 2/3 red tailights.

Maybe some JDM rims and JIC coilovers if your budget allows.

Jesus SWEET LS Celsiors!!!

What kind of rims are those? What yr is your LS?

I'm sorry for my naivity, but I'm new to the LS scene, and I have no idea what an BFI intake is. What/how do I go about getting one?? On the X-pipes, what brand? I feel freaking stupid my area of expertise are GTPs.

It doesn't matter what everyone says you should mod because everyone has their own taste.

Here's my list:
1) Stereo.
2) Stereo.
3) Stereo.
4) Fix what's broken.

I think you can see my taste lies in the audio department!
