Default My IACV temp fix

I was given a 97 Lexus LS400 by a neighbor that was moving. He said once in awhile. RPMs with jump between 1000 and 2000 RPMs and sometimes he can turn it on and off and it's problem. The car wouldn't run normal. As soon as I got the car it did it every time. As I was doing research I found out it was probably the idle control valve and that there is ways of rebuilding on but the one that was on my car is a later model that is supposedly non rebuildable. I did find a crazy Australian guy online that showed me how to do it with a little bit of epoxy in a drill bit so it is possible but I did not want to get that far into it and have to wait for bearings. Plus I was stuck and didn't want to drive it cuz it was killing the brakes and I didn't want to mess up transmission so as I was thinking around I found this solution. I started out with a 10 mm long socket and that's what's in the pictures but then I eventually cut down to a 14 mm short socket and used it on the IAC valve side. Sorry about the videos and pic as I broke the glass on my camera so I had to do it on selfie mode. I am not sure what the plastic pieces that I used I just found it in my tool bag so you'll have to figure out your own way of doing it but I thought I'd post this cuz I couldn't find any way around the valve anywhere else online. I had made a video showing the RPMs jumping before I did this and a video after but I cannot seem to figure out how to upload it has this is the first time I've done any kind of write-up.

I found this plastic piece that fits in the 3/8 end of a socket

Started out with a 10 mm long socket because it fit in to the fitting of the air tube

I took a razor knife and trim the plastic down so it was the same size as the socket

I drove a 1/8 hole into the piece of plastic

I answered the socket into the hose with the plastic piece towards the air filter so that it would not be able to back out of the socket

The hose only fits back on the nipple about a half an inch but as long as you put the hose clamp towards the end of the hose mine sealed great

Good fix. Is it just that black metal pipe that's broken off?

The price of a new, aftermarket IAC valve is nuts.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ac)+valve,6072

There are used ones on ebay for a fraction of the price. Search for P/N 2227050020.

Nothing was broke. The valve was stuck open and it wouldnt idle. at first i cut all air off but it wouldnt run so i tried to cut the air flow in half and it idles high but even so i tried a smaller hole till it idles great.

The pics confused me a little bit cuz you're using "selfie🤳 mode", That's a nice "temporary" MacGyver fix to hold the air level down til you can get another IAC valve. How does it feel while driving cuz the ECU isn't adjusting it if it's still stuck open. Junkyard is probably about $30-40 for used. If it can't be rebuilt, as you say, maybe it could be cleaned.

One of these days you're gonna be screaming at yourself looking in your toolbox and saying "Man, what the hell did I do with that 14mm socket? I know it's here somewhere."🤣
