Thermal management engine coolant bypass pipe and crossover
1UZ-FE, 2UZ-FE and 3UZ-FE engines employ "dry" intake manifolds.
Separate coolant bypass and crossover tubes run beneath the intake manifold and near starter, so 200 F. temperatures radiate onto the starter and intake manifold.
This imparts unnecessary heat onto starter and intake manifold.
The solution is to wrap the coolant pipes with DEI heat shield with pressure sensitive adhesive.
Several before and after images of the project:
The coolant bypass tube runs the length of the engine valley, and beneath the intake manifold and kisses the starter, so will insulate it.
Coolant bypass tube after tailoring and applying DEI heat shield.
Installed..(rear crossover removed)
Rear crossover removed and ready for application of insulating heat shield.
Rear crossover after tailored material applied.
Bottom of rear coolant bypass/crossover after treatment
Front crossover
This modification will reduce valley temperatures and heat imparted onto intake manifold, thereby increasing power.
David Vizard graph: Torque increase % with Air Intake Temperature Drop. I'll be conservative and say 20 F. temperature reduction.
