Thankks guys for the help!

And an engine immobilizer means you can't start the car without it's ignition key.

Now one more thing you said the 290 hp LS has no speed limiter, what about the earlier yrs what are they limilted to?
Specification at Lexus.com indicates LS430 is electronically limited to 131mph.

Some test results of LS400:

93 LS400 143MPH (C & D March 93)
90 LS400 150MPH (C & D Dec 89)
91 LS400 150MPH (C & D Nov 90)
95 LS400 156MPH (C & D Feb 95)

99 LS400 149MPH (virtualroadtest.com)

My favorite years for the LS would be 2001 to present. Don't get me wrong, I always have admired the past LS's but, there's really something about the current model that does it for me. I guess that's why I bought one. This is not my LS but, just look at them when they're hooked up.

Yes, the LS430 above looks awesome. But sorry, standard LS430s with standard ride height and those awfull stock alloys just doesn't do it for me . The 2004 LS430 from the photos on the web looks much better.

I have the 1990 model year and I love the car, but would much rather have a 98-00 model.

93-94 for me, since they took a great intro car and improved it. Even looking at a side profile at tirerack.com it looks sleeker. I specfically went with a 93 since I plan to mod the engine (autorotor blower) and junkyard parts are available at a somewhat reasonable price.

That VVTi engine sure looks tempting though!!!

I personally like the '98. The HID headlight option and the VVT-i. No complaints with ours though. One of the main things was the brake upgarde that the second gen got.

My fav body style is 98 - 00 model. For some reason the LS 430 style is too bulky. It's also too tall. You can see from the side, alltough the front grill looks better.
The 98 - 00 model style match Bimmer 740 - low ride.
Anywho, it's just my opinion.

Default LS

I have a 96LS and it will run up to almost 160mph and I think the 4 speed trans is better than the newer 5speeds ........I know I've out run LS430s on the freeways...........But I would not say it is better than the others, because they are all great cars, just buy what you like, everybodys different,... To each his own.

IMO opinion you can't tell the difference in the suspension from 93/94 vs 90/91/92 except for a little better handling but that's do to the larger wheels - 16" verses 15".
You can always put larger wheels on the earlier yrs.

i think 00 is the best year. last year of 2nd gen. i have 96 and it's been a great car. 130k miles and it's still going strong. i personally don't like the style of 3rd gen lexus. they look too much like avalon and lower level lexus sedens. body style of 2nd gen lexus ls400 is simple and clean. one of the best looking luxury car ever made.
