Correct. IIRC, that's the antenna cable that leads to the phone antenna imprinted on the rear window. There's a second co-ax antenna connector in the truck that cable leads to an antenna co-ax connector under the top vents you see when you open the center console armrest. Connecting the two co-ax connectors in the trunk together with an adapter activates the co-ax connector in the center console.
I used the factory phone antenna on the rear window of the 2000 LS400 I sold in 2014 with a Nokia hands free car kit from 2003 until 2012. I did a thread about it in 2003 but it was lost in a ClubLexus forum meltdown along with many other threads.

i also used this cable for another purpose; i connected it to the radio antenna on my 97 so i don't have to use the unsightly motorized antenna - not plug and play however and it took some fanagling to get it to connect. worked marvelously just like 98-00 models!

this is correct, it's the antenna coax that is imprinted in the rear glass window for cell phone use. it was installed on all model LS for the ability to add a phone later.

Would be great to have this option, though!

- i used a radio antenna extension since the cell phone coax is on pass side, opposite the motorized antenna
- i simply has the middle conductor touch each other then i shrink wrapped them to hold
you're right not sure if this exists on a 1st gen.
look closely at the rear glass defroster lines. the cell phone antenna is parallel to them but not connected!

Just did the same thing today on my 96 LS 400. Took the broken antenna and put it back together to look clean like the antenna is retracted but unpluged the motor. Disconnected the antenna went to Radio Shack and bought an adapter and 5 feet of coax cable and another adapter for the other end and hooked it together. Works great. Thanks for the idea.

I did some research and some digging around, and it does not look like 90-94 first gens come pre-wired. You can only utilize the phone wiring if you have the option, which has a different rear glass that includes the phone antenna.
However, there may be potential to use the antenna for the keyless entry module and connect it directly to the receiver wire for the radio that goes to the telescoping radio antenna... Going to experiment with this at some point.
I'm not keen on keeping this as a solution though, because I still have the original keyless remote key. This would probably be better for someone who does not have the remote key or cannot get a replacement with the matching chip.

The 90-94 LS400 didn't have a cell phone antenna grid on the back window. If you peer above the headliner at the center of the rear window of a 90-94 LS400, you should see a coax cable for use with an external stick-on cell phone antenna. The co-ax cable attached to a condenser that the installer stuck on the inside of the back window. All LS400's of all model years were pre-wired at the factory for dealer installed Lexus branded cell phones.
Here's a photo of the cell phone antenna on the 1990 LS400 I bought new in early 1990 and sold in 2003. The Lexus cell phone antenna on the gen 1 LS400 had a rubberized textured mast that eliminated wind whistle.
