Question Anyone ever repair a broken mechanical odometer? 1990 LS

My odometer stopped working in a 1990 at 174,008. Used to hear clicking behind my gauge cluster. I am guessing it was a malfunction of one of the gears. If I do take out my odometer and see stripped gears, is it possible to replace or repair them? I see a few used odometers for sale on ebay but would rather save $100. The part has been discontinued so I cant buy a new one. I have searched but have not found anyone describing if these could be repaired.

Also my tachometer needle fell below zero. If I rev the engine it does move a little but can't get above 0. I saw in another guide you can gently move the needle back to zero. Can anyone confirm this or give advice regarding the tachometer repair?

Lord knows I tried. It has a worm gear riding the teeth of a normal gear. As soon as the plastic normal gear gets a little worn, the worm starts riding up the edge of the normal gar tooth, then snaps back into mesh. Eventually, the worm gear edge rides up and hits the plastic gear on the edge between each tooth, and it can split the plastic gear. I tried glue. This plastic does not play well with any adhesive. If we could CNC a gear, we'd be set.

I wonder if the gears can be scanned and 3D printed. Seems like a lot of plastic parts could be good candidates for 3d printing. Just need some good examples.

Default Spedometer repair

Numerous mechanical spedometer/odometer/tachometer repair services out there.

Otherwise, in your search, obtain one or two spares from donor vehicles.

Probably should consider relamping the cluster.

If you elect to use aftermarket bulbs, expect the worst.

a) Been there. This gear is a weird one that has no known "suitable replacement".

b) have not yet met a spare that was not cracked. To release the gear from the shaft, a good pull is necessary. Cracked gears let go. Intact gears crack, then let go,

I finally got around to removing my odometer. Incase anyone wants to see what gear fails it is orange colored gear with the crack in it. If anyone knows where I could find a replacement gear or any info I would be grateful. I did find a working junkyard cluster, but with 290,000 miles. Would love to replair my original and set to the correct mileage.

I would try the old superglue/baking soda trick to repair the crack. Build it up with the glue and baking soda and use a file to shape it.
