0W-30 vs 0W-40 Mobil 1
Numerous posts on oil.
Am not partial.to any particular brand, but additives are important...Phosphorus and Zinc offer anti-wear properties.
For anyone using Mobil 1 synthetic, perhaps the following information useful:
Was surprised to learn Mobil 1 site provides Mobil 1 0W-30 is different from 0W-40 other than viscosity.
0W-40 has more zinc and phosphorus than 0W-30, which reduces engine wear.

doesn't the LS use neither of those? good info though... mercedes says to use either 0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40, or 5W-40 in my engine (MB approval 229.5) and i just changed it a few weeks ago with 5W-40 Mobil Formula M for these warmer summer months, in the winter i use the more standard (and available) 0W-40
been using Mobil 1 5W-30 in the LS for years now but after seeing some recent footage i think i'm gonna be getting pennzoil platinum now for that patented natural gas base

I am happy with 5W-30 and I don't use others not listed in the manual below for a 98 Celsior. It covers between a bit lower than -30℃ to higher than 40℃ according to the genuine manual.

not sure if using 0W oil in the LS would be beneficial, but don't you have a newer 3UZ engine in your car?
either way, oil is THEE most debated topic on all car forums. it will come down to preference, application, environment conditions, and availability.
i've recently heard that Rotella t5 diesel oil works very well with older engines (old meaning made in the 90-00s, not old as in high miles), since they have the most zinc in them. hard to argue with diesels that push close to 2 million miles! i remember PureDrifter talking about Rotella awhile back too. this oil is a synthetic blend, versus a full synthetic.

It should perform very well if you stress the engine very hard or are in a very hot area, it will not flow quite as well cold but the trade off is better sheer strength and stability throughout a OCI.
Just remember just because it's 0w doesn't mean it will flow nearly as well as a 0w20 for example in the cold, it still flows worse. Doesn't matter if you are not somewhere that doesn't go below 0
