exBMWowner,

One more question for you. I just noticed that you're also in CA. Are you in Northern or Southern CA. Can you tell me which dealer you went to. And if you again don't mind, can I use your name (not sure what it is), and your payment as a reference? Thanks.

It would not be appropriate for me to post my name or personal information on this site. Perhaps you could tell me your email and I could email you privately?

exBMWowner,
I do understand. If you can shoot me an email to:
tnguyen@mdcvacuum.com I would really appreciate it. If you can let me know the dealer that you went through and the saleperson, that would be awesome.

Best regards,

I'll tell you what. I cannot afford a new lexus ls 430 but if I can get a 3 yr old one with 36k miles on it for 39000 I will certainly buy it. I paid 35000 for my 1 yr ml 320 last year [02 model] and its great but I intend to pay it off in the next 2 years and then any ultra ls430 [ I LOVE the new mods on the 04s. the 18 inch rims are similar to the effect the amgs have on the s class but to me the ls430 is better looking. even when you consider that its derivative of the s. plus it has better quality. now just give me the AWD option... ] I can get my hands on with the above money/mileage factor I will buy. thanks you guys for leasing them!

My lease has a residual value of $36,000 for an 04 LS430 with UL package. This seems like a ridiculously low price. I will either sell it to a friend after three years or sell it for something more than $36,000 and pocket the difference.

It might seem ridiculous, but don't be surprised if that's all it's worth. Even a Lexus.

The best thing we as consumers can do is tell these dealers no thanks, and let the cars sit in inventory for a while so they can think about how much it is costing to hold these cars versus discounting them. A fair price for a car with a $59,000 invoice is $63,000-$65,000. However, it's all a function of supply and demand, and right now supply is tight. It should loosen up in a month or two.

Also, keep in mind the pre-collision system will not be out until January. Around December, there will be some models sitting in inventory that dealers may want to get rid of before the revised January model comes out. That may be the best time to buy.
I just checked the price offered by carsdirect.com with a Bay Area zip code and it shows a $3706 discount ($66,679 with MSRP at $70,385) for a '04 LS /w UL package and Lexus Link.
With an LA zip code the discount is only $800.

Kind of strange, since LA dealers usually have the lowest car prices accross the entire nation.

that is strange. i went to the dealer a week ago asking the prrice on an 04 w/ ultra. he said 69, no discounts. he said he has trouble keeping them on the lot. but i went by the dealer yesterday and he had 4 in the front. i wonder how many ther would be in the storage. If they give me a good deal i might buy one now. otherwise i am definetly waiting for the december clearence. since precolision will be comin out too, they might mark down the ones without precollision heavily

So your dealer wasn't really lying when he told you there was no discount.
Time for a cross-country drive to the Bay Area.

Edit: It is actually because CarsDirect's service is not available in you area so it only shows you the MSRP. Notice that there's no "Save With CarsDirect" option when you use the zip code 30024.

Try expanding your search to within 200 miles of your location. You need to find at least 5-10 dealers who you can bid it out to. All you need is one who wants to sell you the car enough to offer a discount. The rest can stick to their MSRP pricing and not win your business.
