Hello all, I'd like to thank everybody for chiming in with their thoughts! It turns out my starter motor/solenoid was actually in pretty good condition, although it definitely needed to be replaced. The problem was something in the wiring between the starter itself and the battery. I still don't know what it is, or how the problem occurred. However, I improvised a bit of a bypass wiring harness with the help of my friend. Using some 4 gauge and 12 gauge wire, I routed some direct power from the battery to the starter, and then into my cabin. Now to start the car, I flip the key to the first position to supply the main 12 volt power, and then press a push start button to complete the circuit between the battery and starter's ignition "control" module, and the car starts. Thank you! The idea actually just came to me out of nowhere while I was studying basic electrical systems. Now I have a sweet little theft-deterrent tool and a push to start ls400!
