What I learned from that game was just one thing:
E.Honda was an expert LS400 disassembler

1990 or 1998-2000 model year
<150,000 miles
No rust
Paint\interior not sun damaged, no tears\wear on the seats
Driveline in good condition (not leaking)
Suspension in good condition (no vibrations or noises)
Timing belt done recently

In my opinion, the car starts at $1000, each of those criteria add $1000-2000 to the price.

The only exception is if you get incredibly lucky and buy one from a private party or a dealer who doesn't know what they have. As we've seen from this thread, those deals do exist. I bought my car for $5500 and it had every single one of those conditions except for suspension in good condition.

If you're selling it, those are how I would price the car currently. $3000 is fair price for a pretty rough car, but it still drives. $5000 has a few boxes ticked. Over $10,000 and you're talking collectible premiums. 50k miles, perfect condition, first owner, all service records, etc.

Thanks 400fanboy.

I used to be a serious regular poster here on CL but it has been awhile for me. Just looked for "rules" and didn't see anything against posting links so here is my Houston Craigslist add if anyone wants to comment.

That will sell fast. All you get for a toyota at that price is totally abused nonsense. Can you throw up a few pics of your manifold mod or a link,Im interested in that story.

Whats the next car? Just the 430? Has your 430 held up as well as the 400? I saw Scraape got a 430 and it just keeps messing with him.

Stroock639 above has a video of it on his YT channel

Yeah, the 1999 is the best anything I have ever owned. Legendary reliability.

The 430 has been fine so far

Default New '96 owner LS400

Just purchased '96 LS400 with 54,500 miles for $1500. Car has been sitting for a few months. Car looks good overall except for the top of roof, hood , trunk and top of bumpers due to Florida sun. Clear coat was gone on top of car and base coat thin on roof. Sides of car are beautiful. Has chrome wheels, air ride and all the options.
Interior good, new tires and battery when purchased. Engine and tranny are unbelievably smooth. Some of suspension components needed to be replaced. including front strut stabilizer bars. Now I am putting in front lower Ball Joints.
Problems : Slow retraction on front seat belts. Air Bag warning light comes on sometimes. These two problems way be related from what I have read.
Hood , Roof and trunk stripped and primed. Waiting to spray. Slight shimmy starting at 70mph which may be related to Ball Joint.
Looking forward to interacting with all the Lexus members. I'm in New Jersey. Any other Gen 2 in Northern NJ area?

Spuds,
Yes , My '87 avanti. It has been sitting for quite awhile. Too many cars and not enough time. It is an LSC with a longer wheelbase. Shame to see her sit and decay.
Thinking about selling her, but have not made up my mind.

interesting pricing approach
so for a mint 99 LS4 w 125k mi that checks all your boxes, sounds like $7500-$8,000 is in the range
