Well I suppose it was only a matter of time but my PS pump on my 97 LS with 100k has finally started leaking around the top of the pump. Given the beautiful design of having that leaking fluid clean the alternator for you, I'd like to get this solved as quickly and permanently as possible.
I don't know in this case if going OEM is a good idea since the OEM ones are the ones with the defects, would a new unit like this from RockAuto be a good replacement?
Also, would anyone recommend changing out the high pressure and return lines while I'm in there or do those generally last? I am on a budget and those aren't cheap so unless I'd have to replace them soon anyway I wouldn't want to "preventatively" do that

Genuine OE is the only way to go.
If you're skeptical try a New (the OEM acronym really has no valid meaning these days) aftermarket pump from RA and see how long it lasts...
Definitely stay away from a Reman product from ANY seller. Who knows, you might get lucky.
If you're on a budget just be aware you may end up doing this twice if you don't make the right choice the first time. One OE Toyota pump is expensive but cheaper than doing the job twice.

Nah, it's actually the rubber seals that fail cuz of age. 23 years is a long time.
Changing the hoses I would hold off until they do leak if you're on a budget.
When I was on a budget I was gonna buy the seal kit for the pump on my 93 and rebuild it myself with the directions on Lexls.com. I couldn't keep the car off the road while I rebuilt it so I bought a used pump from the junkyard for $20 to throw on as a temp but that one never leaked. I now have it on my 94 and is still good after 10 years. (good junkyard part)
That goes on my "best $20 I ever spent" list.
Other than new oem, if your current pump is oem get an oem rebuild kit and get it rebuilt. I got my old oem pump rebuilt by a shop for $100 now I have a rebuilt oem pump as a spare just in case.

Alright thanks guys. I think Ill look into doing the rebuild and failing that, I guess bite the OE bullet. This car definitely a labor of love thats for sure.
With regards to doing the rebuild, does this kit from LPN have absolutely everything I will need to fully solve the problem? Would hate for it to arrive only to find out there were other seals and o rings not included. Just wondering how all inclusive it is, thanks.
I can’t recommend new power steering pressure hoses and return lines strongly enough. They are wear items and now is as good of a time as any to replace them. And the process is not difficult at all.
