Ls 400 Purchase Question
#17
These cars are awsome I think . Very little of that annoying failing of electric stuff mainly my European made cars typically suffer after around 10 years , several sensors, thermostats, door locks. cable bending cracks, several actuators inside climate stuff and more,
I use my LS400 1995 with 120kmiles as a daily driver the cold 6 months of the year
OK it needed a lot of service up front because the previous owners negelcted it for several years. the normal list.
There are things I dread though . The starter is a nightmare to exchange. Expensive job.
The most important thing for you is to find a good honest LS400 experienced mechanic. Fixing these fast and smart can need some knowledge. I have chased down parts for my two LS400 from all over the world. A few times OEM from JAPAN. sometimes the genuine LEXUS parts are very! expensive or even unavailable. Needs some effort to find good parts at a decent price. Shipping can take several weeks to Sweden where I live.

Yes, those parts replacements sound very familiar. I've had so many late model unique cars that's about what I've had to replace. I'm just thinking ... If I find a good low millage one lets say for $6K and have to put another $6k into it.. I'm trying to think what I could get in Lexus for 12K that would ride as nice and not need any work right away. I'm figuring if the bones are solid and trouble-free (frame, chassis, engine, transmission), then it could almost need nothing after that. This is what I need to consider if after all the necessary work is done, it is then worth it. I admire thee low, wide stance of the 90's LS400, that's something you can't buy today.
