Have you verified there was physical damage to the engine? While the belt definitely does not look healthy in the pic cracking on the outer core doesn't mean it's not doing it's job. I'd pull both cam gear covers off and check the markings on the engine vs any marks hopefully left on the belt. I'm not sure if slipping one tooth is enough to cause any damage. Also, check the tensioner as it's easy to access down below. See pic-

If it had "Snapped" (which they don't do, they fray as the internal fibers break apart) it wouldn't be in place around the cam gear. It sounds like your tensioner has failed, which caused the premature and accelerated wear of the belt. You said in the OP you didn't hear any rattling noise or mechanical knocking...
I'd investigate further before throwing in the towel.

May be as bradland stated, that the tensioner may have become defective or seized, causing the belt to become loose or just snap.

Yes I replaced the whole set. Also water pump and tensioner and the roller in the middle. All things including camshaft seal. Beats me.. Aftermarket junk maybe?

I understand, very unfortunate experience..Believe Gates manufacture many of the OEM belt kits. Usually the manufacturer will have its information on the belt itself to confirm from that manufacturer. Are you able to still view any information on the belt? If so, it may be worthwhile to contact Gates with photos / documentation when purchased/ installed and when broke (dates & mileage etc.). Especially since all the related components were replaced along with the belt. May require some of your time however, may be worthwhile providing what information you have.
