Fortifying upper strut tower mounting area
The LS430 uses what appears to be an exhaust header flange style plate to fortify and stiffen the chassis at front strut mounting area of the strut tower.
The LS430 upper strut mount nuts are more substantial in that they employ much thicker washer head bases and, on account of the flange plate, do not require LS400 style integral/captive anti-scuff washers.
A plug and play proposition that requires 10 minutes installation time.
Did not look at LS430 rear struts, but it would seem.consistent to use same nuts there.
Anyone with inside information know why Toyota added this plate to the LS430?
Underhood view of1999 LS400 strut tower apron area...the sheet metal appears flexible to me (these are the rustiest nuts on my vehicle...)
Side-by-side view of stock strut nuts with captive anti-scuffing nuts with captive washer, and LS430 strut tower nut.
LS430 flange plates ...yard pulls
LS430 nut on left employs a wider, stouter flange. LS400 nut on right. The LS400 uses an integral captive washer to avoid scuffing the paint while tightening. DO NOT use LS430 style nuts on your LS400 without the flange plate or the area will scuff and start to rust.. Spacer is also required to avoid flange interference with radius of center opening.(?)
Right side installed...perfect nut height orientation to strut stud ends. The flange plates and nuts are yard-pulls...will refinish or replace the nuts. May powder coat flange plates body color.
Left side installed. Easily clears brake master cylinder.

Don't think it would work on the rears. The rear shocks have foam upper cover caps that screw onto the studs of the shock once its mounted, likely for an NVH reduction.
