Three tears ago this happened to my 94LS with 180K. I took the gear out of the steering column, placed a garden hose washer behind it, reinserted gear and trouble free now at 205K.
That sounds a lot easier, I was just worried about the minerals being conductive and shorting something on the PCB

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is for the tilt motor mechanism not the telescope motor. In either case, I believe '94 and below models have a different telescope part than 95+

correct on the tilt, not sure what year it was changed. I have mine apart now cuz of the tilt. It's so screwed up I can't get the gear off so if it ever gets moved I just push the gear in with whatever I have (pen, screwdriver, etc.) while holding button.

If you ever need a gear they have em,maybe 10 bucks or so,on ebay.
