Default Rear brake caliper low frequency vibration damper

Trellenberg is a Sweden based design engineering and manufacturing concern focusing on tuned vibration/resonance dampers for brakes.

Quality manufacturer of NVH reduction products.

https://www.rubore.com/en/products-applications/tuned-absorbers

On information, they are the primary supplier to Automotive OEMs of high frequency anti-squeel/squeak shims.

They also offer a low frequency vibration damper that mounts to the slide pin of our rear brake calipers....

Lexus is known for use of NVH reduction components and materials: engine, exhaust, drivetrain, brakes, chassis.

While the OEM pads and rotors are not experiencing any squealing, screeching (high frequency) or any particular low frequency vibration, can detect very minor low frequency resonance when touching the calipers while the brakes are activated (tires removed on a garage lift.)

Am always interested in projects, so went ahead and purchased two of the Trellenberg low frequency rear brake dampers as brand labeled Raybestos.

Several pre-installation images of the kit contents and instruction:

Where do you see "Made in Sweden" on anything anymore but Lingonberry preserves? It's because they produce a quality product with an enforceable patent.

Installation instructions...very simple installation.

Fastener hreads are correct M8-1.0 and minor end is M6-1.0 for Damper.

Will post installed images...

Default Installing rear brake caliper vibration damper kits

The Trellenberg brake damper mounting stud will require machining to provide adequate clearance with the stabilizer bar if mounting damper at upper end of caliper or, avoid possibility of abrading brake line if mounting bottom end.

The grip below the minor thread atop the hex head is too long, so will machine it.

Images depicting clearance...and safety issues.

Image depicts inordinate extension of mounting stud will cause damper to touch and possibly abrade brake line (!) The solution is to remove upper bolt shank (3/8" to hex head) and re-machining it as M6-1.0 threads to hex head..

Top end mounting with provided kit mounting stud may cause interference with stabilizer bar...so reconfiguring the grip atop hex head as M6 stud will provide adequate damper clearance safety margin. .

I think RockAuto sells vibration dampers for the 2G Acura TL rear calipers too. I think the bolts are M8 on that car?
Anyway nice upgrade as usual

I checked the part number of the damper in your pic and it’s actually the same one for the 3.2TL that RockAuto sells.. go figure.
Good luck with the modification!

Default Brake damper pricing information

There are three brands brand-labeling the Trellenberg low frequency brake damper...
Carlson, Raybestos and AC Delco.
Except for price, each is offering exact same product: made in Sweden...

Default Rear Brake Caliper Vibration Damper Installed

Installed rear brake caliper dampers with mounting bolts modified by H.R. Slater Co.

There is now adequate margin of clearance to mount the dampers at top caliper mounting bolt. Using lower bolt is not recommended because the brake line will rub on damper... Adequate clearance on bottom of suspension travel, but as I raised the suspension knuckle upwards, the brake line rested on damper..

Damper mounting bolts with 1/2" step removed. The threads were also shortened a corresponding amount. H.R.Slater even machined the tips to emulate the original bolt.

Damper clearance at sway bar at bottom limit of suspension travel.

Clearance at upper suspension travel...

In order to install.the damper onto the threaded bolt head end, and insert Torx bit required removal of the sway bar damper nuts (1997-2000) and bracket bolts to push away bar out of way.. Once damper is installed, there appears adequate room to back out the brake bolt when removing calipers from slide pins for brake service.
