Default outer side mirror replacement

mine needs replacing (87910-50320), i've done some searching and found these threads:

https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/tu...r-replacement/

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...g-removal.html

i've found a used silver mirror from a (sadly wrecked) 1999 LS but before i do anything i'd love to know is there ANY way to remove the mirror without removing the entire door panel? in all my experience with addressing minor frivolous things that've bugged me throughout the years it's taught me that things are best left alone as possible... i'm worried the door panel will start rattling, and or the weatherstripping won't sit right if i take the by the book approach, so i'd really rather remove as little as possible to get at the mirror bolts

thanks in advance for all help

Nope, you have to take the door panel off.

i share in your approach to replacement but yes you will have to remove the panel to get to the mounting bolts.
just be gentle with the clips, using the right pry tools. most of the panel clips around the car are felt lined to prevent squeaks and creaks; a testament to lexus' commitment!

what about the weather stripping? i've read that the 'garnish' needs to be removed is that what that refers to? that i'd really like to leave in place to avoid any possible wind noise leaking in

Did you need to just replace the mirror or the whole housing? If you just need to replace the mirror, it can be done without removing anything else.

whole housing unfortunately... the mounting point for the glass is broken, as are the heating wires
