Default Pls help: Rough idle after valve cover gasket change

Hi,

My 2000 LS400 was running beautifully until I had to get the valve cover gasket changed due to an oil leak. Since it got back from the shop the infamous quiet idle has disappeared and it’s much louder, and vibrates noticeably. Other than that it runs fine, no noticeable loss of power or anything. The RPM hasn’t changed, it’s still around 600. It’s just way louder.

Any ideas as to what might have caused the idle to become much louder after the gasket change?

Bank one or bank two valve cover gasket replaced?

Have you surveyed the work area to determine if anything broken or misinstalled?

Any stored trouble codes?

Have a different shop look at it to pinpoint problem.

Both gaskets changed. No codes. I have had a look, but I am pretty mechanically illiterate so I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Will be taking it to another shop, but money is a bit tight atm so trying to keep things cheap.

Take it back to the shop that replaced the valve cover gaskets, complain & demand them to fix it.

i suspect the shop failed to reinstall a part or vacuum hose. take it back to them or get a second opinion from another shop.
