Reducing trunk lid panel flutter
LS400 hoods and trunk lids employ a sub-panel for rigidity.
The sub-panel lattic structure is adhered via dollops of adhesive.
Time has taken its toll, so the adhesive has either hardened and, or separated.
For the trunk lid, I employed one-part Eastwood brand Seam Sealer to fortify the existing glue globs..and added seam Sealer to the remainder of the lattic panel openings....without loss of trunk lid ventilation....
No more beer can noise when knocking on trunk lid...solid sound now. Panel flutter is gone.
Will apply cork sheeting to the openings to further reduce NVH.
With trunk liner removed, applied seam sealer to remainder of perimeter of triangular openings. Discernible difference in noise. Solid thunk now when knocking. The one-part seam sealer smells to high heaven while drying.
One-part product used...applies with a chalk gun. Two-part is also available ($),.. will cure much faster.
