Default Is it OK to clean the MAF sensor on a 97 ls400

I've read it's a big no on the earlier models from 89-94 because of the karman vortex meter but it's ok for 98-00. Not really seen answers for 95-97. Changing the airfilter so might as well clean the sensor with some MAF spray too if it doesn't harm the component.

I've never felt like risking killing expensive electronics that are functioning fine, personally.

True but I think I messed up with K&N oil. Put too much it seems on my filter. After 3mile drive took it apart to check the situation and there was a bit oil on the inside plastic after/behind the filter. I fear there's some oil on the sensor. Need help!

Not 100% sure but don't think that style is supposed to be cleaned with MAF spray. How to clean it safely? Good question. Get rid of that oily filter they don't help in the slightest for power or airflow and only cause problems.

Yep. Ordered an oem paper filter. Bought the car a month ago. The filter was incredibly dirty and I had to clean it right away since the gas mileage was pretty bad. Do you think I should buy a new sensor?

I'm still confused about the type of the sensor. Is it a vortex or hot wire?

Looks like a Karman Vortex style to me.

edit - I would buy a used one on Ebay and then try to clean the original with say 70% IPA.
