Heavy gauge expanded steel. I had to use an angle grinder to cut it. Basically just replaced the ugly plastic thing that was there. The emblem was easy enough to attach. Originally I left it silver- It was cool but a little boy racerish. I painted it flat black so it wouldn't stand out. Kind of like an Acura I think.

 

If i had to do it again I'd use a lighter steel that I could cut with tin snips. FYI..Home Depot, Lowes, menards do not carry expanded steel longer than 24". The LS grill on 90-93 is more like 29" wide. If you go to a metal shop they can get you a piece for 7 to 10 dollars.

 

While I was at it I took the yellow element out of the inside driving lights. They're wicked bright white now. I'm going to try and fit expanded steel in the bumper cover as well to replace the plastic lines. That's the last bit of the car that I don't like. BTW, I'm not from Texas. I bought the car from a friend in TX that got it off eBay for me. It has two months left for insurance so he's letting me keep the plates til it runs out. I'm in Des Moines, Iowa.

Looks very sharp! Thanks for posting the pics. Did you use existing screw-down points from old grill to hold it in place or just press it into place?

 

I'll take pics this week. I used the top screw points. The bottom screw holes are too far back so I have the steel mesh pushed up against the chrome edge. I'm going to buy some lighter stuff soon and make it again. Maybe I can make a template if you're interested. Instead of cutting up my bumper last night, I painted the striped part at the bottom flat black. It looks nice- takes your attention away from those aweful lines.
