if you guys want to know something thats sad, the $28,000 honda accord has xm radio standerd. I cant belive Lexus is charging $600 for it when your spending $70k. Thats just weird.

My father just had a Circuit City aftermarket XM installed in his '03 LS430 with no problems.

Yeah, I think they used a wireless FM transmitter. It works great. So what's wrong with that? I agree it's not the same as an integrated system, but it works well nonetheless.

naw, the new 2004 accord has it intergrated into their navi also. so you can use your voice command and steering wheel controls also. And you get a nice display on your navi screen (if you ahve one).

Since you can't integrate an aftermarket XM receiver into the '03 LS430 Nav system the only way I would add the receiver is thru an FM modulator installed in-line with the antenna cable. The cassette adapter looks tacky with that wire hanging out of the tape deck and makes for a messy installation. Furthermore, the tape deck motor runs all the time you are listening to XM. Given that I would have XM on almost all the time I would not want premature failure of the tape deck motor. I don't want the wireless FM transmitter because I have not seen one that isn't battery operated and even if I did , I don't want it because of a greater susceptibility for interference when compared to the in-line installation. IMHO
My point in my original post was that in order to install an in-line FM modulator on a LS430, you have to cut the antenna cable and splice in the FM modulator (thats a serious modification for which I would not want BB or CC to perform). The LS430 has a unique antenna connector at the tuner box for which there are no adapter cables available. (at least as far as I have been able to find)
I probably could have articulated that better in my original comment.

Is there anyone out there who has installed the factory option through Lexus and can tell me what price they paid. I know the tuner is listing for $600.00, but it seems that some dealers are tacking on a labor fee for installation, and others may not be. If anyone has paid the dealer or received a firm quote, I would appreciate sharing it with me.
