Rear air purifier filter, Toyota celsior
Hi all,
I've seen the toyota 88926-50011 air purifier filter is discontinued.
Some parts lists show a filter as 88926-3A520 being compatible.
Has anyone tried the second one and does it fit? Seems to be the same size.
Thanks,
Connor.

In the footsteps of Chizhevsky: replacing the filter of the vacuum cleaner-ionizer

Hello again!
I don’t know about you, but when I was completely green, I was crazy about the heading "OCH. Skillful Pens" in the program "While Everyone is Home". Probably everyone who liked to build a bright future out of plastic bottles, Moment glue and rubber bands from panties eventually got an old Japanese man, the content of which will require the use of everything he has seen in practice. I'm kidding, of course. But nevertheless, a certain amount of ingenuity, and a pair of relatively parallel hands to each other will not hurt any marketer.
So, today I will tell you how to save more than three thousand rubles and get hold of a fully and fully functional filter in a vacuum cleaner-ionizer without karchers, powders and in general any water procedures. Let's get started.
Anyone who has an "AirPurifier" (aka a "vacuum cleaner", aka "hood", aka "ionizer") is installed in the package (or as a result of additional equipment) knows that the filter is not cheap for him, and has no analogues, according to sites like existential or emex. The original 88926-50011 currently costs 3811 (together with my discount on the DRIVE2 Krasnoyarsk club card ) on EMEX. Indeed, not the most accessible detail.

Pandora's box of markovodov. An elusive coal ghost. The golden fleece of fresh air. Grail of noble ions.
Many people solve the problem with the filter by washing the latter, by soaking it in the "Eared Nanny" or "The Myth of Frosty Freshness" or by targeted shooting from Körcher. Someone prefers to buy "contract" filters from incoming cuts (and someone is even lucky, and little used copies fall into their hands). Someone generally cuts out a piece of foam rubber to size and shoves it into the holder.
Why didn't I do that? For the same simple reason why I don't wash my vacuum cleaner bags at home, and I don't wash the air and cabin filters in the basin. The filter element is a purely disposable thing. It loses its properties with each next washing, if it was not originally designed for it. Moreover, the adsorbent - granules of activated carbon - cannot be simply taken and "squeezed" out of the absorbed substances and odors.
I decided to dig a little deeper. Most major air filter manufacturers have online filter sizing services. Therefore, we go to the car, remove the filter, carry it home, take measurements, and after learning that the filter is 25 centimeters long and wide and 5 centimeters high, we go to look for an analogue. And nothing. I was unable to find a suitable filter. After a little thought, and after studying the design of the original filter, I came to the conclusion that if I manage to find a filter element larger than the one used in our "vacuum cleaners" - I can simply cut it in place. Using all the same services, we find out that there is a MASUMA filter # MC-2040CL used in Nissan Teana cars as an analogue of the original filter # 27277-JN00B and measuring 27x28x2 cm.

Here he is, darling.
The height is not so important to us as the length-width and the fact that the filter is carbon. An excellent donor, in a word. Moreover, there are plenty of analogues. In the "Virage" store, for example, it turned out to find a similar carbon filter of the Russian company TSN. The filter is also charcoal, but it costs not 600+ rubles, but only 460. For the experiment, it is the most. We buy, we carry it home.

Spartan packaging.

Comparison with the original filter.
We unpack, and the first thing we cut off the side ribs with a sharp blade.
IMPORTANT! Note the direction of the air flow on the filter rib. In our ionizer, the air goes up from the bottom of the filter.

Loose filter element.
Then we measure out the excess in width, and, having marked, we cut it off.

It is very important to have sharp scissors and to cut confidently from bend to bend. Then we remove the excess length. Everything is easier here, just find a suitable section and cut along the bend line.
Now we take the old filter and remove the guides from it. We recall the direction of flow in the purchased filter, position the filter element accordingly and insert it into the grooves of the guides.

Let's try on our filter.

And we fix the filter element.
For rigidity and tightness, we fix the strips to the guides on the sides with reinforced tape.

Not very pretty, but this part, and indeed the whole filter, will be hidden from prying eyes.
Then we remove the indicator (transparent "clothespin") from the old filter and fix it on the new filter.

Installed indicator. By comparing the color of the filter under it with the color of the filter around, you can conclude how much it is clogged. Now we go to the car and take out the filter holder from the "vacuum cleaner". Please note that it has exactly the same comb guides. We confidently install our new filter in place, until the characteristic clicks of the two guides.

View from above

Bottom viewNow you can sit in the salon, turn on the "vacuum cleaner" and light a cigarette. Well, or if you, like me, do not smoke, you can simply enjoy the fresh air, or equip the "vacuum cleaner" with a fragrance and use it not only for cleaning, but also for aromatizing the air in the car. Until a better alternative has been found, I think the money and efforts spent are entirely justified.
Until next time!

Thanks for the reply. I've seen that.
But while I was searching it comes up with the toyota 88926-3A520 filter when selecting Toyota celsior ucf21 on the following website. Which would be better than modifying the original.

A filter 88926-3A520 can be used for a UCF20/21 manufactured between October 1994 to August 2000.

It is common for Toyota to list a superceding part number in its parts database, when the original.is no longer produced, but is superceded by another purportedly fit and function part...
So when I look up the original.part number on say Amayama, it is discontinued..with no substitute or superceding part...
As far as Toyota superceding part numbers, to put it mildly, my experience has been the part is not of the same quality...
Probably Toyota gets away with it more in North America but I bet in Japan it would not be tolerated.

Images of 88926-3A520 Air Purifier Filter
Beautifull part. The original LS400 cabin filters were of a similar composition prior to supercession.. The Air Purifier filter is
Expen$ive. $85 - $100.U.S., but superb quality.
Yamae: Have a question... the access door opening for the glove box area cabin filter is much taller than the profile of the cabin filter..
Is it possible that it was designed to also accommodate a taller profile filter by using a different filter tray?
The thin cabin filters barely last 6 months so this taller filter could work?

Unclear whether UCF30/31 filter tray would fit in UCF20/21:
