Talking Location of main speed sensor for speedometer? Code P0500 (1999 LS400)

Hey all i recently finally got a code (P0500) for my, i assume dead speed sensor! Ever since ive had the car it has turned off and on so i do believe it has finally just gave up and died. That being, can anyone tell me how i can easily access the speed sensor and replace it? Anything would help thank you!

The code P0500 is not always caused by the speed sensor attached to the transmission, I need to inform you. The VVT engine models do not get the speed signal from the transmission. It is only used as a reference signal to compare. Those models get the speed signal from the ABS/TRC/VSC computer as is shown below. One tire rotation generates 48 pulses at ABS sensor units and those pulses are processed by the ABS/TRC/VSC computer and sent to both the odometer and the speedometer as well as the ECU. The process is to remove the noise and to get the average and divide by 12. So the cluster unit receives 4 pulses when the tire fully rotates 1. The code 0500 is generated by the ECU when a discrepancy is detected between the processed 4 signals and the signal from the speed sensor attached to the AT.

I have read that if your ABS sensor are out than the car should be ****fting roughly because it cant tell how fast it going and something else about not being able to brake right or something else lol. But when i took it out for a spin, she was running and shifting fine thats why i think its the speed sensor.

Did you fix it. Have the same code in a 98. If so can you please share any insights and part number.

Part Number 89411-50010.

I would confirm that your sensor is working properly (see attachment - See Step 4).

Any help on the part number for 98 LS400? I think it goes to 89411-50010 but not sure if that's the right one for the rear.

Does this sensor go bad?

I posted the part number. Both the front and rear speed sensors are the same part number.

Speed sensors go bad; the mechanically (gear) driven ones do. The cause is usually a speedometer cable that's binding that eventually causes either the driven and/or driving gears to strip.. I have not experienced a Hall Effect sensor to fail. However, they do tend to collect metal particles.

I did actually cleaned the sensor today with CRC QC electrical connector cleaner. It passed the ohm resistance test and small voltage test.

I think I gonna drain and refill the tranny to see if it can help. The connectors and wire appeared solid.
