I have been using the same Mobil 1 oil filters on my 2004 sienna as on my 96 ls400. So the threads appear to be the same. Can I also use a Toyota Sienna filter on my LS400? I just got a set of them for free. Thanks in advance.

How about posting side-by-side images of your filter next to OEM.90915-YZZD3.

Motorcraft FL-400S,
K & N HP-2009 and
Mobil M1-209A filters listed in the "size matters" link while visiting local Auto parts store.
All use a flat rubber gasket that appears tucked into the filter.
THIS is a BAD design and a disqualifying factor (from my perspective) because it can loosen, shift or distort and leak oil.
The 90915-YZZD3 nestles an o-ring (or insert molds a rubber seal?) into what appears to be a circular recess that allows uniform compression without distorting and or tearing....important.
None employed a filter cover seal as does the 90915-YZZD3.
None was prelubricated as was the 90915-YZZD3.
Important details...and probably many others not apparent
When I first purchased my LS400, it had a Wix filter that was dripping from the gasket..
All use 15 flute filter cap wrench vs 90915-YZZD3 14 flute cap wrench.
Motorcraft FL-400S is the same height as 90915-YZZD3...
Mobil 1 M1-209A and K & N HP-2009A are much taller. The bigger is better list Side-by-side image of K & N, Mobil 1, Denso amd Motorcraft oil filters... Underside of the four brands. Count the number of inlet holes. Denso filter employs a flat bottom, while the other brands employ wine bottle bottom style. I like the oblong holes of Motorcraft filter over round holes of others. AST Tool oil filter cap wrench is cast and not stamped or deep-drawn...fits like a glove.
As you see from the screenshot of the list of oil filters from "Size matters", it is a 17 page post.
Toyota probably offer a taller filter that will work in place of the 90915-YZZD3.
While I like taller K& N (expen$ive) and Mobil 1 filter, am focusing on a Denso brand filter due to better engineered filter seal.
Not interested in just adding a larger capacity filter for the sake of doing so, but because I believe it will improve flow, and perhaps reduce pumping losses, especially on cold start.

I have been using the Motorcraft filter every year for the past 10 years and have not had an issue with leaking. I do lubricate the seal before installing it
You probably saw in the store, but to answer your earlier question - the AST adapter for the Toyota filter does not work on the Motorcraft filter
Just to follow thru here - bear in mind that I was trying to cheap out - not to be better about engine maintenance - still I change the oil every 5k. A visual (ONLY) comparison of the YZZG1 to a Mobil 1 102A filter shows: similarities are the same height, and have the same mounting threads. Differences are G1 has 7 openings which are oval and wider than the Mobil which has 8 round openings, G1 is much lighter in weight than the Mobil, and the mounting ring is round on the G1 whereas it is flat on the Mobil. As I had already bought the Mobil filter I went ahead and used it anyway. There is a substantial cost difference for me as I paid about $1 for each of the G1s and $16 for the Mobil 1 filter so next time I will likely go with the cheapo filter. Thanks for all the assistance here.
