The MB S-Class still rules this segment of the market with authority. It is a class leader, and "the best researched and best developed car in the world bar none." Lexus is smooth, reliable, but a notch below S-class where innovation and prestige are concerned. I love my 92 LS400 though. The Gen 1 was and still is the best looking sedan to come out of Japan.
Well, from first hand knowledge. I will NEVER purchase another MB so long as I remember I said this.

I just turned in a 04 S55 because It had made numerous trips to the dealership for service, then the computer failed and left me stranded.

Sorry to hear, but I have a 1995 S420 that is nothing but a pillar of class, power, and reliability, and a constant sense of awe to viewers that the 1999 Lexus LS400 parked next to mine cannot do. Both are great cars, and I would not part one for the other.

Thats interesting, my father-in-law's 95' S420 was wrought with problems including a bad transmission. I would think at the very least you would have replaced all four window regulators.

And my 93 300SD and '99 S320 both had electrical problems. It's 14 years since Lexus wow-ed the automotive world and, in the end, stll no one comes close.

From what I hear, most of the problem MB cars were produced after 99.

about 4 days after they delivered my S55 one of the Xenon lights went out and they told me that it is NOT covered underwarranty. I had to pay over $400.00 to get it replaced.

As to your comment about most problems being after '99....NOT TRUE. Actually, my '99 was more reliable than my earler Benzi. And if it IS true, I would REALLY be concerned because the pre-99 cars were not nearly as reliable as any year Lexus.
