I'm at 268K and it does start. I need to find a replacement for the air shocks though. I can't drive it anymore until I do and I refuse to pay 1K a piece for them. Does anyone know what I can use without having to go non-air or shell out about 4K for replacements

I have a 1991 and the odometer stopped working in 2000 with 255,077 miles on it. I have probably put on at least another 175k on it in that time with trips to Florida, Kansas city and New Jersey a number of times. I've driven it to New York more times than I can count in the past 4 years. The Engine still runs strong and burns no oil. It does need some work though.
My airsprings went out in 1998 so I replaced them with conventional Eibach springs and Tokico shocks. I need to replace both rear control arms or press in new bushings as the handling has become sloppy. I need a drivers side upper control arm as well and a good alignment. I bought this car in 1994 with 33,000 miles on it and it has been great. I have driven the **** out of this car and it has never let me down except for once, when it died after the alternator took a crap. This happened from PS fluid leaking on it for too long from the PS pump.
I've done heavy drifting in this car which is why my supension is the way it is now, I can honestly say I have never heard of anyone driving an LS400 as hard as I have for 12 years now. I took it to the drag strip in 1996 and ran a 15.29@93mph but it feels like it pull harder now then it did then. I added a Borla exhaust and Rod Millen intake back in 1997. Engine sounds incredible rushing to redline after those mods. I recently bought another 1G, a 1993 with 120k miles on it. It looks almost new with an immaculate interior.
I got it for 4k from a guy who just purchased it last May. He put in a new inst cluster and all 4 O2 sensors. He put 3k into it just last August in tires and freshining up the interior with new steering wheel and shifter. He was just looking for a quick sale and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
On the 1991 the only major repairs I had done were a leaking TQ convertor seal that was done under warranty and the PS rack, lines, pump, and an alternator. Oh, and the suspension work, which I really didn't mind since the car handled much sharper afterwards. I also recently replaced the coolant resevoir that cracked. Everything else has been simple maintenace:
Plugs, wires
Timing Belt, WP.
I think I may need a starter one day as it does make a little noise after disengaging, and my crank pulley is getting a little wobbley. I'm sure this motor could make it to 1,000,000 miles.

'94 Ls400
I bought mine about 6 years ago when it had 153,000 on it. Now I have 216,000 and still goes pretty strong. However, I have that power steering leak and I usually have to fill my ps unit every 6 weeks. Other than that, I'm ok. Just have one question though: I'm thinking about upgrading my LS400 for a 2000. I test drove it the other day, but it seemed like the 2000 LS400 is not as quiet as my '94. Maybe I'm more partial to my '94 but that's the way it seemed. Can anyone confirm if the 2000 is less quiet? Thanx for your responses.

1991 LS400
Bought 2.5 years ago with 137K now is knocking on 170K.
Awesome car, because of this car I purchased my GS400, talked my mom into picking up a GS400 as well and now my wife is looking to upgrade the LS400 to a LS430.

Well, I guess I'm the baby of the bunch here. I have a 96 LS with 45K miles. When I purchased it two months ago, it had 37K miles on it. The previous owner didn't use it very much at all. Based on what everyone is saying here, I'll have the car for several years.
This is the smoothest riding vehicle I've ever driven and I'm now a serious Lexus fan. I'll never have another type of car other than the LS at this point. I hoping to put on 200K+ miles on it.

Mine's got 203840 on and it still runs pretty smooth. I'm about to tune up the car with som new spark plugs and wires, pcv valve, dizzy cap, rotors and a few more goodies to make this baby run smoother. I'm even replacing the valve cover gasket just in case. Hopefully I won't have to do it again until who know when. Other than this and other minor things, this car is running strong. I'll be putting in Apexi exhaust in the near future too. should be fun!
