My '95 has 221,500 miles on the clock now, and it's condition belies this mileage. Having had Mercs, BMW's, Audi's, Saab's and (my last car) a Jaguar over the years, my Lexus shows it has the best build quality.

What surprised me most is the interior-the leather is in fantastic condition-for instance the drivers seat bolster is unmarked-no wear, no cracks, no more wear than you would see on a 20,000 mile car.

Best car I have ever had.

Smile Miles

I've got 155K miles on my 1996 LS currently. Just replaced front struts and getting ready to do the rears. I've had to do nothing to the car other than basic maintenance. I'm coming up on another timing belt change in another 30K miles or so. I just had this done in May 2008, but I do drive a lot of miles, which is why I got this car.

I'm looking to run it to 300+ before I even think about getting another car!

288k on my 98.. I beat the **** out of it every time I drive it, only repair I've ever did was power steering pump at 260k. Like I said, I drive my car like its a Corvette. The transmission is starting to act strange shifting from 1 to 2, but if I have it mashed, it shifts perfectly 300 above redline. I do think the tranny will go soon, but like I said, I don't turn down any opportunity to outdrive / race anyone. My dad had the car from 0-220k miles, he drove it more conservatively but he is no stranger to mashing the gas. Hope this helps perspective buyers... BUY IT. Only 98 and up, though.. they did major upgrades in 98. I still have factory paint that looks perfect (minus a couple dumb dings that were my fault, and some ******* sprayed degreaser on my car and let it sit).

ex 1990 LS400 purchased in 1996 for $19,990.00 @ 77k miles
sold it in 1999 for $10,100.00 @ 181,000k miles
(one timing belt, did it myself, no repairs otherwise needed)

current 1992 LS400 purchased in June for $3,995.00 @ 95k miles
have just replaced timing belt, plugs, A/C compressor, adjusted valves and changed all fluids, just did the Lextreme $160.00 LCD display solder-out/solder-in replacement in the climate control (good guy! free light bulbs!)
and I love this car.

Thank you, Colin, for making me realize how stupid my post sounded. I guess my 18 year old self decided to take over for a bit. I respect the car for its superior ride quality, features and comfort level. I do respect the things I own. Pardon me for being brash and 23. Its hard not to want to enjoy a motor that runs like a swiss watch, and also feels like it is begging to be fed.

I do take care of the transmission.. never get on it from a dead stop, and I definately respect the age of the car when maneuvering. I just wanted to emphasize how my 98 is not far at all behind where it was when it rolled off of the showroom floor. People never guess that my car is a 1998.. It still is the showstopper in a lot of newer cars. They DID THE LINES RIGHT on this vehicle! The HID heads keep it away from the old looking category.

I should not tell you then, to go to YouTube and search "1UZFE 9,300RPM"
and listen to that hair-raising music. These engines are a tour de force, and their capabilities are legion, really, the damn things will out NASCAR a NASCAR engine in the balanced high rpm department . . . well, the pre-98's will. The early engines had the serious connecting rods and Toyota's full attention at the time . . .

I think the LS400 came out of the box looking pretty, and the essential simple grace was quickly run over by their need to compete with a restless market. Colin
(don't tell anyone here at ClubLexus how much I think the ugly-*** LS430 looks like a fat grandma Mercedes S600 with toilet paper hanging under her wool skirt. It just doesn't work for me, the new 460 looks just like a Camry at four times the cost, time to shut up)

I just purchased a 96 one owner Arizona car. I can't get over how the interior and exterior look new. 159,000 miles! I paid $5,600 and I just can't get over how it's the best car I've ever owned. It's got this crazy sound system that has renewed my interest in music. Thank you to this forum as it's been helpful in identifying a thermostat sending unit problem (yes I use the search).
