you LS folks with 1998 and newer models have an interference engine, so if your timing belt breaks, it's like a $5000+ repair, whereas for us 97 and back folks, it is just an inconvenience of getting the car towed and the belt replaced (non-interference engine) - so for all you 98 and newer cats.....if in doubt, get it replaced, don't push it to the limit!

yeah....no.

89-94 are non-interference.
95-97 AND 98-00 are interference.

lexus drastically changed the head and piston design to up the compression a bit in '95, turning it into an interference engine.

you may want to go and get your TB done there buddy.

Just rolled past 270,000 miles. Here's to 300K+!

But now, it's time for that dreaded TB/WP job. Damn. lol...

345,560 on my 92 LS 400. Original Starter failed at 345,435... Put one from autozone in, and instant running car! I am hoping to hit 400,000 very soon!

I have 115K on my '99, and I love how it drives. Only problems I have had is the tilt wheel stopped working, but still telescopes.( I need to post that to see if there is an easy fix). Also, I'm about to change out the engine/tranny mounts due to vibration. Timing belt & water pump are probably next. Plugs are original, and show no wear whatsoever. Iridium must be awesome.

corrected.

also, i'd do timing belt/wp first. due every 90k so if it hasnt been done yet at least once you're definitely overdue.

1998 LS 400 Nav works perfectly, interior looks as good as the day I bought it. Car is tough as tank.
