1995 ls400 ucf20 , 580.000kms , going strong , replaced the top tank on the radiator , as it was cheaper then the oe part ,tank replacement R680.00 as opposed to R6500.00 for a new radiator south african prices on parts are a rip off , cambelt 1500 rand usdprice $187 if we did the exchange rate, same as oe airfilter R1500,00 , changed the wiscus coupling on the fan as it siezed up and i went from 400kms to a tank to 600kms to a tank, i do mostly long distance with this vehicle and love it ,the speedo and rev counter started to play up , pulled them out cleaned and lubed them and they work like new, cd changer gear stripped that works the shuttle , but i wont swop it or trade it for a new car

Default 300k!!!!

So after a year and change I have finally broken the 300,000 miles barrier on my 1991 LS400. I picked it up in February of 2011 with 287,000 miles on the odometer. It really needed a lot of work. Since then I have installed a new coil spring conversion kit from Strut Masters, replaced the entire front end (control arms upper and lower, strut rod bushings, ball joints, etc) Replaced all of the burned out light bulbs in the Nakamichi stereo and climate control, replaced all of the speakers, replaced the master window switch, got rid of the power steering vacuum control valve in favor of a plug. Sounds like a lot but I did all of the work myself and over a period of 17 months. As far as mechanicals go, I do have the infamous "engine tick" at the rear driver side engine bank and I do tend to experience delayed start up when the car is warm (fuel pump or regulator issue, I believe). The paint needs a little bit of help from 21 years of exposure to California and Texas sunshine (is a bit faded on the roof). As far as "love" factor goes, you cannot beat how well this car was built. plan to keep her until she decides it's time to go into the great beyond. Even after 21 years the styling is still attractive IMO.
