Default Help! Iow idle :(

1995 ls
Had anybody had this issue?

The first encounter with this issue was when i was driving on the highway @highwayspeed) and all of the sudden there was traffic so i braked to a complete stop and the car shut off. Turned the key on again it it started right up. Like nothings happened. At first i wasn’t too worried about it

that was about a year ago, but recently I’ve noticed that after i get out of the highway to regular street traffic for some reason it idles low. Sometimes even to the point where it looks like it’s about to turn off

I would have to turn on the a/c and turn it off so the needle gets back to it’s original place. Just below 1k rpm

This other encounter is rare. I haven’t been able to record it since it’s unpredictable…..

there has been times where i turn on my car and i hear “popcorn” sounds. Almost sounds like a misfire

it doesn’t do this all the time, just popping sounds. I would have to rev it alittle bit or turn on the a/c

There had only been one time where it turned off on me right after i heard those “popcorn” sounds

anyways i hope that’s enough info, don’t know where to start looking.

i still drive it everyday and besides that theres no other issue. Its running strong and has not giving me any other problems.

any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

Is the ECU's firmware updated in accordance with the TSIB or does the car have the ECU printed 89661-50234 instead of 89661-50230 / 89661-50231?

If not, it is the often case to have too low idle or halt problems after the high speed run. This commonly happens among aged 95 LS400s that have the clogged throttle body, clogged IACV and it's port, clogged intake manifolds, clogged intake valves and partially clogged injectors.

check vacuum hoses and PCV hoses for any cracks. That should bring up the idle rpm. Popping sounds like the timing is physically off by a couple teeth. I had a mechanic do this once and quickly drove it back for him to fix it, was completely better after that for 50k until I sold it
