Default 2004 Accessories Bluetooth and XM Radio for 01-03

While looking at the 2004 LS430 in the showroom the service desk had a 2004 Lexus accessory catalog out. I was surprised to see both the Bluetooth base kit and XM radio with cover as accessories. Of course I wrote the part #'s down for future reference. This indicates to me they are not as integrated as originally thought to be. For example the bluetooth base kit is not integrated into the navigation display unit. This doesn't mean it's not dependent on wiring into the navigation system, but a separate ECU. Maybe, just maybe these 2004 options could be integrated into 2001-2003 LS430. Until Lexus produces a 2004 LS430 Electrical Wiring Diagram (EWD) I will not know for sure. I'm working with a couple Lexus parts departments to get to the bottom of these matters before the EWD is available. I'll keep you posted.

VideoNavi,

I've done alot of investigation into using the Lexus XM receiver into the '01-'03 models and from what I can tell, it can't be done. What do I base this on? The electrical diagrams for the '04. They *are* available and I have a copy of the sound system diagrams. I have compared to the '03. The '01-'03 are all the same (because I compared those diagrams, too). However, the '04 is different for almost all components - tuner, head unit/changer, amp, navigation unit. The '04 components are tied together differently than in the '01-'03. Also I saw a document that suggested that the protocol used to link these components together has changed significantly with the '04 model.

Regarding Bluetooth, it doesn't use the display unit? That doesn't make any sense. It does integrate into the Nav unit. It has to in order to function as advertised.

I hope I'm wrong and that there will be some way to integrate the '04 XM receiver into the '03. But for me, based on the data I have uncovered, it cannot be done- at least not without extensive modification to the '03.

LS430inTX,

Wishful thinking on my part, now it doesn't sound probable to add the '04 OEM XM radio and bluetooth accessories after what you have told us. Can you share any of the '04 wiring diagrams for the stereo and navigation with us? Are they from the '04 EWD?

Maybe I just need to get a new 2004 LS430 I'm still looking into replacing my '02 rear tail light lens(s) with the '04's.

TestnDoc,

The accessory catalog listed both the bluetooth base kit with navigation and without. Here is the part # for with navigation, but I don't think it's a charging base... best check with Lexus parts.

I was at my local dealer yesterday for their LS430 open house reception. The salesman indicated that the bluetooth cellular setup isn't a charging stand. A bluetooth-capabile cellular phone can be in your shirt pocket (or pocket book) and work through the LS430 system as a hands-free phone, with verbal dialing.

He also indicated that the XM radio wouldn't be available until about January.

There is no cradle, it works with any bluetooth phone and integrates with the nav screen in the 04 model

bob,
I have had XM radio for a week now. Your dealer is behind the curve.

Default XM Radio and Antenna Placement

This is true. My dealer stated that although my car would be the first, they are installing XM Radio now. They would need to order a part, and labor would be 2 hours. The only worry is the antenna placement. Aside from the Poster that was not happy with the driver side back trunk installation, has anyone had the Satellite antenna mounted elsewhere?

I can't without violating copyright law. Don't want to get me or anyone else in trouble. Yes, these diagrams are part of the '04 EWD. I only have a PDF file - not the printed product. But you can get them here: http://techinfo.lexus.com This is Toyota's Technical Information System (TIS). You have to subscribe - 1 day pass=$10, 30 day pass=$50, 1 year pass=$350. All of the repair manuals, electrical diagrams, Service bulletins, etc are available in PDF format for viewing. I will warn you, there is no single PDF document to download. If you want the entire Repair manual or EWD manual, you will have to download *many* different PDF's to get it all and you won't be able to do it in a day (recommend the 30 day option). Also, if you have Acrobat 6 installed, you need to uninstall and install Acrobat 5. Otherwise you will not be able to login to the website.
I am surprised that more people don't know about this.

Maybe I just need to get a new 2004 LS430 I'm still looking into replacing my '02 rear tail light lens(s) with the '04's.
Yeah me too, 'cept I just bought my '03. I gotta wait a while before I get another. If you find a way to get the LED taillights retrofitted, lemme know! I want them too.
