98 ls400 starter problems
Okay so here it is the 98 ls400 starter aside from obvious injuries to it what all should I look out for when purchasing a new one also how ****ed up is this one cause the grinding noise explains the brutality the flywheel put on this thing! Should I be worried about the flywheel or is it just the starter! I do have it currently sitting out waiting for a new one to go in although I did put the Blenheim blenum back on so it could have some protection atleast now I can say F the core charge! Planning on getting a rebuild cheap one I know not the best idea but a denso rebuilt is damn near out my price range! Feedback on this subject would be great thanks!!!

I see the video isn’t loading the teeth on the starter are half grinded down explaining the crunch noise I got last few cranks am I looking at a replacement starter or is the flywheel gonna have anything more to do with it the piston of the starter or cylinder piece comes out with spring and a small metal ball like a bearing! Any feedback

Pole Position
You should be able to see the flywheel with the starter out, use a small bar or a large screwdriver to turn the ring gear one full revolution. look for any teeth that are destroyed, if it's not too bad I would just replace the starter.
Ring gears can take a few good hits and still work fine.
