And I want my hood to stay up also! Anyone can give an advice on which on to buy??

ps: I´m from europe, so buying ebay struts from US is more expensive for me.
hi

the correct force is 400N for car made between 95-2000 (mark 3 and 4)

hope this helps

thanks for the reply.
Went to a shop today, they didnt have 400N struts, so I bought 500N. Now the hood opens good and stays up. Closing is not difficult.
Got both struts for 25EUR (~35$).

I obtained three sets of hood lift struts including one set for my Lexus from <http://www.autopartsbylou.com/>....I was very satisfied with the price, quality, and service.

Default Front hood shocks - aftermarket replacements?

My front hood shocks are totally done. Is there anyone who has replaced these before that might know where I could find a set or possibly some aftermarket ones that would fit the bill?

For now I find myself using a broomstick when I'm under there

Thanks!

I just had mine replace 2 weeks ago. Bought them at Auto Zone. Approx $40 to $45 with tax. Goodyear installed them during an oil change. $20.00 for both. About 1/2 what dealer charged. Took 10min.

I have and could not find the correct replacement at any of my local parts store and did not want to go to the dealer so I just went to the junk yard and grabbed them off one of the LS400 there. It was easy to install, all I did was unbolt the 2 bolts. Also before I had replaced my hood shocks I used some vise grip pliers to help hold the hood up if I was doing any work under the hood. But check out the following for more information.

Using aftermarket hood struts is just fine for the budget minded. I ordered some from Ebay about 4 years ago, and they are JUST needing to be replaced now (leaking). Is REALLY simple to do. Prop the hood, 10 mm open ended wrench on both ends, uninstall, re-install and you're done. There are PLENTY of reputitable sellers on Ebay that have them and require NO adjustment whatsoever(direct bolt on)

If you can find some in working order, your local boneyard is also another option; provided they are in working order.

--Cope - Which one's did you buy from Autozone?? If you bought the Mighty Lift C95029 struts they have been know to eventually cause a bowing of the hood. This is because they are meant for the hatch section of SUV's and Wagons, not the hood and are UBER strong. Happened to me awhile ago.

There have been many issues with aftermarket struts bending the hood. So be very carefull with saving money on this. search the forum for more info on wich brands you should avoid.

I bought the original from sewellparts.com with clublexus discount its $82 each. Heres the part numbers for my 91 LS.

right 5344059015
left 5345059015

normal price in store is $134 each.

Here is what I used on my 99:

Ebay struts for $40 shipped. They are "Tuff Support Gas Springs 612200 replaces 4566" They were perfect came with bolt in ball mounts that fit, were the perfect length, and wern't too hard to lower the hood.
