Default Coolant gauge

Ok I’ve been through a lot of forums and read countless responses but I can’t find a solution
driving me crazy! Lol
i have a 1996 ls400 200k miles
my coolant gauge stopped working. Here’s some details and info
i disconnected the SENDER and grounded it out to test the gauge and it moves all the way up . So I figured the sender is bad because the gauge moved up .
I replaced it and still no shot.
next I connected my scanner to read the temps from the ECU and it’s showing me proper readings (185 degrees)
my thought process was the sensor is bad but if I’m getting readings from my scanner > ECU then how could it be ? Right?
I made sure connection to sender was good
I don’t know what’s next? Just replace sensor now? I was thinking a faulty cluster but if that’s the case why did it move when grounded out..
I also tried slapping the dash and the temp gauge would bounce up and then back down
I’m new here to posting. I usually just read others post but I can’t find a solution to my problem
any ideas ?

I would replace the dash gauge now. They do go bad after time.

Smacking the dash doesn't help anything lol

the sensor for the gauge cluster is separate than the one used for the ECU.

here is the ECT that the ECU reads off of:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...ange-pics.html

the sensor directly behind the ECT, black plug single wire, is the temp sensor for the gauge cluster.

my temp gauge on my 95 recently failed too....i changed the related sensors and it didnt help. Had the cluster/gauge repaired, and that did the trick. Temp gauge failed. Also had the sticky rpm and speedo needles fixed, and faded needles. all good now. good luck
