LS400 Rear Differential Replacement
I've heard that the 1998-2000 LS400 has the same rear diff as the 2000 SC400 with the same ratio and bolt pattern. I was wondering if I could use it on my 2000 LS400 because it is impossible for me to find a rear diff in my area for an LS400 and SC400 diffs are more abundant

Interesting. I know their gear ratio is "different" but only different by 0.01. So the LS400 has a ratio of 3.27 while the SC400 is 3.266. I'm looking for a whole new pumpkin because I know the LS400 diffs weren't really made to be rebuilt due to no gaskets being available for the diff cover.

I am in desperate need of a differential I have tried and tried to work with people on facebook to buy one and they flake out or don’t respond, I went to a pick n pull and searched for a ls400 they said they had there and it turns out they had already crushed it. I’ve spent tons of my personal time trying to get a 97-00 differential. I was curious if you could confirm this information or if you had any sources as to where you got it i’ve searched and searched but can’t find much of anything!

LS has 2 bolts in the rear mounting of the diff. The GS and SC have 3 bolts in the rear mounting. So a totally different rear subframe due to the different suspensions I would imagine. Maybe the GS and SC diff will still bolt up to the LS rear subframe using 2 out of 3 bolts in rear diff cover? You would have to swap the LS rear diff cover over to the transplant to be certain. The front mounting bolts and propeller shaft flange are the same however.
