Default Need help identifying wire harness!

I have a Lexus LS400 1996.

I’ve changed the timing belt, water pump, tensioners etc all OEM parts.

I came across this mess and want to get it fixed before putting it back together. Can anybody help me identify this??

This is the mess I’m referring to.

Hello,

That harness is a connection for your Ignition Coil and all the sensors on the front of the engine. The good news is that it is pretty small and can be replaced relatively easily, but the bad news is that this is a common problem for those cars, this wiring piece is in a very tricky spot, resulting in it getting cooked over time. There isn't much that can be done with it at this stage unfortunately as all of those harnesses will be in similar condition, unless if they barely have any mileage.

This won't be a quick fix, so at least for now, depending on how soon you need the car back up and running, you can inspect what you can reach for any broken wires, and then carefully tape it up with something like an electrical cloth tape, which is very good at resisting heat from the engine while you look for a replacement. Here is a thread on how to de-pin a connector, in absolute last resort, you can try fabricating that wiring harness using BMW style splice connectors that don't add any thickness to the wire, but they do require a special crimping tool to do them right, and lots and lots of patience as it will take a while.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
