Have a 97 Lexus LS400, I replaced the coil for bank 1 and forgot to connect the cam position sensor cable back into the new coil. When I started the car cold it held a good idle starting at 1100 and worked down to about 600, but had a CEL. Moved the car to a different spot in my driveway and when I got out I heard the motor didn't sound quite right so I shut it off. Checked the OBD2 and it said cam position sensor bank 1. Noticed the disconnected cable, plugged back in, started the car but then it idled at 300 and I could only run it by holding the revs up with the throttle, but the CEL was gone. Shut off, looked under hood and the cable from coil to distributor popped out of the new coil. I plugged it back in and taped it in place so it wouldn't pop out. Started the car but still only 300 rpm idle as if it is only running on bank 2 or the timing on bank 1 is somehow off. What could this issue be and how should I correct it?

Hello,
What coil and wires did you use?
Spark plug wires don't have a tendency to simply fall out, they are usually on there for good, not to say that it's a solid way to cook the coil by leaving it hanging like that, since the voltage in it will keep increasing until it finds a place to strike through.
Older cars are pretty picky about the coils you use, in this case I would actually suggest looking for a low mileage used OEM, it will be a lot better than any aftermarket. To check if it is the coil, you can try swapping them around to see if the issue will transfer over. Other than that, 1997 model should already have an OBD2 port, look through Engine Live Data, pay close attention to Misfire Count and Ignition Timing.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Did the wire for the cam sensor get cut or chewed up at all when it was not connected and running?
The wire for the coil should not just pop off. It should need a bit of force pushing it on til it clicks. If the tab is broke off on the wire so it doesn't click, it will never have a good enough connection. No matter how much tape you put on it.
