AUTO tilt away
2002 w 93,000 miles. I am the 2nd owner. The auto tilt away feature works to retract the steering wheel but makes a rubbing noise as if the motor was tired. Owner's manual says this can be deactivated by the dealer. Is there a DIY way of deactivating it?

You can disable the Auto-Tilt & Telescope using TechStream. I disabled mine that way.
If you are having issues with the motors (my tilt is broken) you can remove the lower half of the steering covers and rotate the tilt-shaft manually to position the wheel where you want it.
There are also a few videos out there that show how to replace the tilt/telescope motors. Doesn't look that difficult.

I was able to get mine to where I wanted it,then removed the fuse to keep it there in one position until I get around to permanent fix. Since I am not a tech guy I will live with it for now. Not ideal but don't want to face a motor expense for now. Or a big dealer bill. Question: Does tech stream fix allow the manual adjustment if it's a motor issue that needs replacing?

Pulling the fuse disables it completely so even the button cannot move the wheel, but the TechStream option only switches off the Auto-Tilt/Telescope Away.
