Should I change my oil and trans pan gaskets?
I recently bought a 2001 LS 430, and I have no experience working on cars. I want to get into working on cars and have an experienced friend come over to help me change my fluids and gaskets (both the trans and oil pan are leaking). I was just wondering if completely changing the gaskets on the pans would be too difficult a job or if I should just live with the slight leak and just change the fluids normally. I have done a lot of research on how to do this and I don't think it would be too difficult, but I'm not sure.

Clean both pans thoroughly then tighten, snug might be a better word, the pan bolts.
Do it gently without much torque it will typically fix the issue. If either pan continues leaking consider a more invasive approach...

Transmission pan is pretty straight forward. The oil pan is a completely different job since you have to lower the subframe to get to a whole row of bolts on the oil pan. Do not attempt unless you have a lift and a lot of time on your hands. p.s. I found out the hard way.
