trunk release

trunk release
The trunk release button under the dashboard is not working anymore. Trunk can only be opened with the keyfob. The button under the trunklid never worked, the manual keylock is totally corroded and was never used in over 20 years
Any idea what could cause the release not to work anymore?

Just asking in case.... I know this is probably not it... you didn't push in the key lock button by chance, did you? It is possible to physically lock the interior release button (that chrome keyhole near the trunk release under the dash) just by pushing that in. Just throwing out the easiest first.

Sounds like the internal and trunk lid buttons need replacing.
The trunk lid is easy enough to do, and you could remove and clean the key barrel at the same time.
As for the internal trunk release, no idea how easy it is to remove that switch.
Since the fob still works, the mechanism etc. is all good. You just can't trigger the release with the buttons.
The key is a mechanical trunk release so it's a good idea to clean it and lube it as a backup.

thanks for the suggestions ---- still not working. if the lock button was pushed (had ii in service) then the fuel lid button would not work either since they are connected. but the fuel lid button works fine

I was having this problem for a long time. I think I've finally figured it out. It now works about 90-95% of the time. I was just quick-pressing the close & lock button. That works fine on the close-only button. But with the close and lock function, you have to hold the button for just a moment longer than you'd think.
