Default Road Trip with the 2003 LS430

2 years or so ago, I gave the high mileage 2003 LS430 to my kid as I moved into a 2013 LS460. I recently had to drive my kid from GA to FL in the 2003 LS430. It was a 7 hour plus drive (at easily 80+ MPH) and the car now has 276,000+ miles. The LS430 is now 21 years old and while it has issues, it still runs very well (even though it has definitely aged). The car has been very well maintained over the years, so I guess that explains why it still runs quite well and didn't cause any issues on the 7 hour drive. Things I did notice:
  1. The sub woofer seems to have blown. I am not a do it yourself type of guy. Anyone have any idea how much an audio shop charges to put in a new sub? I searched the threads and it seems that if I replace the sub (non-ML), I need to make sure the ohms are are 8 or higher so as not to blow the amp. It was tough listening to my kid's music and even tougher with a blown sub.
  2. A small tear in the passenger seat, which I had re-upholstered several years ago to address the same issue.
  3. The passenger side mirror motor whirs even though it no longer folds in or out. I had a shop in TX address it, but I guess their fix has not lasted. Even so, the electric positioning of the mirror itself still works.
  4. Seats are definitely not as comfortable as they once used to be. At some point I will see if my kid has the time to find a good upholstery shop to re-cushion them.
  5. The telescoping steering wheel died years ago. It still pivots up and down, though.
All in all, I am very proud of how the LS430 is holding up. No body corrosion, although a summer on the beaches of FL may cause it some issues. In several months, I will have to fly back to FL to drive the car another 7 hours back to GA. Keeping my fingers crossed.
