Default Cupholder Issue Solved

I recently purchased my 2nd LS430. The first one bit the dust at 294,000 miles due to rust. Frame, gas tank and body were shot.

Now that I'm back to the dream car, I felt it necessary to find a solution to one of the big issues with these awesome cars. The crappy cupholders are worthless. My solution was fairly simple. I removed the ashtray completely. Never been a smoker and never will be. Losing the plug really isn't a problem since there is a plug in the center console.

I used two of these generic cupholders. JoyTutus Cup Holder Inserts... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GD8BNVQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They rest in the space perfectly without moving.

Here's the finished look.

I'm thrilled with the result.

Very nice. i always liked how you can close the door and get that seamless look on the center console, a nice touch for a luxury car

I agree with both previous comments and would like to know the answer to the question. @Nphoops ?

I like the smooth wood, but I have to say this is one weird area of this car where they choked. Cup-holders in rear? Sorry, no place for your arm. cupholders up front? careful on the shift or seat ventilation. The LS460 figured it out. My 97 Acura RL had it figured out. Love this car, but just strange what engineers will brain-fart on, probably were exhausted at the end of the design phase.

No, the cover doesn't fit. Since it is basically integrated into the ashtray, I didn't see a way to make it work.

I chose function over the aesthetic. I think it looks good.

Take out the entire panel and turn it over to unscrew the ashtray. You need to take out the panel that has the heated seat controls first, then need to move the shifter to D to get the console panel off. Pretty simple job.
