There are the 2 small slats in the lower grille, and I notice some LS430's have a cutout there on the passenger side...is that like a tow hook or something?

The dash display calls it 'Radar' cruise control. The owners guide calls it 'Laser' cruise control. It truly is a class B Laser device. The 2004 Pre Collision System (PCS) will place a Radar unit behind the front grill, but will a PCS equipped car remain using the laser for cruise control?

I read on a Lexus web site (think it was one in Europe) that stated the Laser was being replaced with the radar for the cruise claiming that the radar would somehow be better at sensing cars ahead of you thus, theoretically, making the cruise work better. I'm not sure what the real-world difference would be. My Laser-based system seems to work just fine.

laser uses light detection and is not as effective as radar when there is fog or rain. the germans started with radar (MB) while lexus started with laser. even the japanese make mistakes sometimes...it's good they know how to recognize and correct mistakes

I always thought having the laser cruise control turn off in moderate rain was a safety feature as many accidents have been attributed to the use of cruise control in wet road conditions. The car will accelerate even if the tires have no traction
