our next-door neighbor has a '97 740i. They were thinking about replacing it with a 03 745i but changed their mind after hearing about the horrible reliability issues from other BMW owners. They are now leaning toward a LS430 . I am happy for them but i dont want them to have the same car we have. Btw, their 97 740i sits in the shop most the time. I see them drive a loaner Z3 all the time. They just had the transmission replaced. My impression is that they love driving their 740i (when it's not in the shop) but might defect to Lexus.

I too was very close to getting a 98-99' 740IL, but whats the point of having a car thats fun to drive when its always in the shop, thats not fun. I refused to allow BMW to make a fool out of my purchase decision, and so I went all Lexus.
