Black stubby antenna on LS430?
I read that the antenna was for Lexus Link, but then also read that Lexus Link has been discontinued. I looked on the Lexus website to see if anything was said about Lexus Link, but didn't find any reference to it. Can anyone clarify what the antenna is for if not for Lexus Link? Thanks.

I don't think it's for GPS

Why the switch, I wonder. I have an '04 LS, and it's my first Lexus to have an antenna not embedded in the rear window. This is my 4th Lexus in 8 years. And if you have the factory satellite radio installed, you get another antenna.

The stubby roof-mounted antenna is for lexus link and/or optional cell phone. AM and FM antennas are in the rear window. GPS antenna is located under the rear package shelf on the passenger side.

I believe Lexus Link service is subcontracted out to GM/OnStar. I read an article in the last couple of weeks, (can't remember if it was in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, or one of the automotive magazines), talking about how GM/OnStar is scrambling for a contingency plan when wireless providers are allowed to start dropping analog coverage in 2006. The article mentioned an attempt to design a cost effective digital retrofit kit, as well as mentioning that some of the modules in 02 and up GM vehicles already had a provisions for simple conversions to digital (no idea about non-GM licensees such as Lexus Link).
