i just read on another site that '04 LS's are being recalled to have the trans replaced? but i cant find anymore information than that. anybody hear anything?

ON CERTAIN VEHICLES WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS OPERATED QUICKLY, A SMALL PIECE OF METAL MAY SEPARATE FROM A RETAINING COLLAR LOCATED IN THE INNER PART OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS SMALL PIECE OF METAL MAY BECOME CAUGHT IN THE PARKING LOCK MECHANISM.
Consequence:
THIS MAY CAUSE THE PARKING LOCK SYSTEM TO BE INOPERATIVE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER IS PLACED IN THE PARK POSITION, THEREBY INCREASING THE RISK OF VEHICLE ROLL-AWAY, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:

Contrast this with the Acura TL forums and their tranny's dropping like flies in wintertime. Acura just keeps dodging the issue. People have had their replacement trannys fail 12,000 after installation. Then again, it seems like Honda has a long history of problems manufacturing a reliable tranny. Nice to see Lexus step up take care of the problem ASAP.

I took my 2004 LS 430 in for service at Lexus of Ann Arbor for 25K service and was informed of the recalls on the fuel pump and transmission.

Not a problem! Lexus will gladly replace the fuel pump and transmission!

Bummer about the recall; however, I love that a car company is proactive and I didn't have to haggle about reparing or replacing the recalled items.

I pick up my car tomorrow...if I have any problems, will post.

How long did they have your car for? I assume they gave you a loaner?

I left may 04 LS430 in the shop today for the service. My car is about 5000 miles on it.

one shop can take 2 cars per day for this recall..

Since I know the owner of my dealer, I got this fixed today.
Car is in the shop for testing which will be tommorow. I hope it will be ok from now on..

by the way recall service takes about 4~5 hours and two tech will be working at the same time.

How do we know WHICH cars were recalled? ALL 2004s? I called my dealer today and they "just got the notice about this" and have NO CLUE which cars are affected or not. "If you get a letter, you are affected". Gee, thanks! I want to know DEFINITIVELY if my car is one of them or not. You'd think 13,000 cars would be the bulk (if not all) of the 2004s.

You can call Lexus Customer Assistance, give them your VIN# and they can tell you if your car is included in the recall. I called yesterday and my 6/04 built car is not included.

I called Lexus re mine. They said it was not part of their "special service campaign" . She said Lexus did not have recalls! Only special service campaigns!

i called, mine is on the list.

the guy says to me. "do you know what the difference between a recall and a service campaign is?" I respond "yeah, you call it a service campaign so people dont think they're luxury car is being recalled" his response "yeah, pretty much" that cracked me up, at least he was honest

Here are some details from the Lexus campaign publications:

4LB Condition:
On certain 2004 Model Year LS 430 vehicles, the impeller inside the fuel pump may have been improperly molded due to a manufacturing error. Alcohol in some fuels may deform the impeller and cause it to come into contact with the fuel pump housing. This condition could increase the rotational resistance of the impeller and, in the worst case; the fuel pump could seize, which may result in engine stalling.

4LC Condition:
On certain 2004 Model Year LS 430 vehicles, when the accelerator is operated quickly, a small piece of metal may separate from a retaining collar located in the inner part of the automatic transmission. In the worst case, this small piece of metal may become caught in the parking lock mechanism, causing the parking lock system to be inoperative when the transmission shift lever is placed in the “P” (Park) position.

on my car it says that it was made om march 2004 so i should be in the clear
